 CONSTITUTIONAL HYDROTHERAPY

Constitutional Hydrotherapy at Vis Clinic

Constitutional Hydrotherapy - Hydrotherapy is, by definition, the use of water for the maintenance of health or the treatment of disease by stimulating the body’s own self-healing mechanisms. Constitutional hydrotherapy combines alternating hot and cold towels to the front and back of the torso with physiotherapy devices in order to directly affect various organs or tissue states as well as systemically treat pathways of digestion and detoxification. The different water temperatures assist in altering the rate of blood flow and lymphatic fluid in the body; essentially creating a pump. Initially, a hot towel is placed on the skin to increase the flow of blood and other fluids like the lymphatic fluid via vasodilation. Following with a cold towel causes the blood vessels to initially constrict, and then gradually dilate. This pushes the fluids back towards the center of the body, and then gradually moves them back towards the surface to warm the towel. This initiates a cycle of carrying away metabolic and other waste products from cellular and tissue detoxification, followed by a flow of nutrient-rich, well-oxygenated blood through the tissue and vital organs such as the liver, kidney, adrenals, intestines, and lungs.

Benefits Include:

  • reduced inflammation and chronic pain to the local area

  • increase in energy level

  • strengthened immune system, specifically an increase in white blood cell count

  • improvements in digestion and bowel function

  • regulation of blood sugar levels

  • improvements in sleep

  • decrease in stress response

Wet Sheet Pack - the wet sheet pack is a full body wrap in a cold wet sheet and blanket. The treatment progresses into three phases, cold (or cooling), neutral, and heating. The purpose of the wet sheet pack is to provide stimulation, relaxation, and detoxification. The wet sheet pack can be used to relieve fevers, relax and sedate, and aid in cleansing through the skin. Heating promotes sweating and elimination and is therefore useful in detoxifying from environmental or chemical exposure or from drug, alcohol, or tobacco use.
